I asked the pharmacist (though she was a student) about what good topical cream could be used for my baby's bum for a yeast rash.
She gave me a antifungal cream. I asked her if it was safe for the baby (he's 11 months) and she said yes.
However, after opening the insert of the cream, it said do not use on children under 2 years of age.
Ack! Is this just a precaution or can it be still be used? Has anyone used antifungal cream on their babies?Antifungal cream -safe?
When my baby got thrush (a yeast infection of the mouth) it spread to my nipples (a yeast infection of the nipple, bleh, so gross) my son's pediatrician said the antifungal cream was good to use. He also said that if a tiny bit got into my son's mouth while feeding it wouldn't be a problem. So if it's ok to get a little in his mouth, it's probably ok to use on his bottom.Antifungal cream -safe?
My daughter acquired a yeast infection at just 8 months (around the corner from the bum!), and I used an over the counter cream commonly used for ';jock itch';. I tested it on her thigh first, and there was not a reaction, it cleared up after using almost immediately. As with anything however, I would consult your baby's pediatrician, not a pharmacist's asst.
My daughter is 8 months old and currently fighting a mild yeast on her potty. My pediatrician recommended using OTC miconazole (same stuff found in monistat). We have been using it since yesterday and the rash is clearing up. If you're not comfortable than definitely call the dr for the ok before you do it.
I would call up the doctor and ask first. Just an example, a pharmacist told me the flu mist was safe for pregnant women as I did not want the shot, but it turns out pregnant women should definitely NOT have the flu mist as it is a live virus. So honestly check with a doctor.
I used Lotriman AF (anti-fungal cream) and Neosporin when my baby had diaper rash and it worked great. Both were recommended by our Pediatrician and she was 1 month old when we did it.
Ask your pediatrician first, just to make sure.
They do perscribe antifungal cream to babies with a yeast infection though. :]
